OCTOBER 24, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: GOVERNOR RON RIDES AGAIN – OVERNIGHT – FROM THE HILL: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said on Sunday that he is looking to enact legislation that will provide a $5,000 bonus to police officers to relocate to Florida, where they can avoid vaccine mandates. DeSantis told host Maria Bartitomo on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that Florida is “actively working” to recruit law enforcement officers from other states who are being fired for not getting the COVID-19 vaccine. “We're actually actively working to recruit out-of-state law enforcement, because we do have needs in our police and our sheriff's departments. So, in the next legislative session, I'm going to hopefully sign legislation that gives a $5,000 bonus to any out-of-state law enforcement that relocates in Florida,” DeSantis said. “So, NYPD, Minneapolis, Seattle, if you're not being treated well, we will treat you better here. You can fill important needs for us, and we will compensate you as a result,” he added. The governor’s comments come amid his escalating conflict with the Biden administration over its impending vaccine mandate, which will require businesses with 100 or more workers to require vaccines or weekly testing. Agree with him on every issue or not, DeSantis is the most innovative governor in the country and runs a nonstop office. He would be an excellent presidential candidate in 2024 if you-know-who decides not to run. October 24, 2021 Permalink
OBAMA GOES WEIRD IN VIRGINIA – OVERNIGHT: Former President Obama, who, I believe, has decisive influence in the Biden administration, went campaigning in Virginia for Terry McAuliffe, and demonstrated that he's still totally out of touch with America, and still doesn't like its people very much. From Breitbart:
COMMENT: Can you imagine what the response of the woke press would be if a Republican spoke that way about an alleged rape? Or if a Republican dismissed the concerns of parents as phony or trumped-up? CNN would have a three-week story. The New York Times would be too outraged even to publish before its editors got medical attention. Obama once again proves that he's a party-line wokester, not a liberal. Too far gone for America. OCTOBER 23, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: BRAVES WIN; DOES ATLANTA? – OVERNIGHT, FROM CNN: For the first time since 1999, the Atlanta Braves are in the Fall Classic. The Braves knocked out the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. The series had been a rematch from last season, when the Dodgers came back from a 3-1 game deficit to beat the Braves and go on to win the 2020 World Series. The Braves will face the American League champion Houston Astros, who defeated the Boston Red Sox in six games Friday. Atlanta jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after Austin Riley's ground-rule double brought home Ozzie Albies from second. Now, here is the profound question: Will the Braves be permitted to play their home games in Atlanta? Remember the All-Star game? It was scheduled to be played in Atlanta, but was moved to Colorado by a suddenly woke Major League Baseball office to protest Georgia voting laws. Everyone knows that voting laws are closely related to ball games. Will the ban on Atlanta be reimposed for the World Series? Frankly, I don't think so, but no doubt some "activists" will try for a repeat performance, or, failing that, for some special representation of their views at Series games. DEFUND THE POLICE? WHY, OF COURSE – OVERNIGHT: After all, what could possibly go wrong? From Fox:
And...
COMMENT: Once again we read that the ultra-leftist billionaire George Soros gets involved to wreck our law enforcement system. No major news organization seems to care. Vote for Prop A if you live in Austin. October 23, 2021 Permalink

It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs.
